The county sheriff is the county’s primary law enforcement official. In Calhoun County, The Sheriff’s department is located at 340 Grantsville, West Virginia 26147. In this county, the sheriff serves a four-year term as per the West Virginia Constitution. However, sheriffs can only serve a maximum of two terms in a row but can always be elected after a one-term break.

Sheriff’s Department Duties And Responsibilities

The Sheriff is in charge of policing the area, maintaining order, and having the authority to make arrests. The CCSO is divided into divisions for better organization and service, each given a distinct set of responsibilities. What each division performs is as follows:

Patrol Division

This division patrols the county’s whole network of roads and water bodies. To maintain the highest level of peace and order in Calhoun County, the Sheriff’s Deputies assigned to administer the division patrol the neighborhoods around the Sheriff’s Office’s jurisdictional businesses, schools, and residences.

Investigations Division

Administration

This unit is also entrusted with executive responsibilities, including planning, budgeting, and purchasing. Additionally, on the Sheriff’s orders, the administrative division does background checks and provides firearm licenses.

Along with delivering arrest warrants, administrative deputies are responsible for receiving, documenting, and distributing civil paperwork. To guarantee efficient administration of court business, they also liaise with the Circuit Clerks’ and Judges’ offices.

Court Services Division 

The WV laws task the Sheriff’s Office with court-related duties. This department undertakes these duties, which include the following;

  • Enforce the payment of unpaid taxes.

Jail Division

The Sheriff’s office also runs and maintains the Calhoun County Jail. This includes also hiring and firing of jail employees. This unit trains all employees, including the recruits to the jail. In addition, it accepts any requests from volunteers. It also enforces the jail’s rules and regulations, assigns inmate tasks, and signs parole requests.
