The Western Virginia Regional Jail (WVRJ) was created to address the issue of overcrowding and other harmful living conditions related to overcrowding in the local prisons of the four towns that joined the Western Virginia Regional Jail Authority in 2005. WVRJ also adheres to the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA), a federal statute passed in 2003 to end sexual assault in detention.

The WVRJ Authority Board runs and maintains this facility with the mandates provided for the WV State Laws and the WV DOC. Representatives from the member jurisdictions make up the Western Virginia Regional Jail’s governing board. They include representatives from Roanoke County, Franklin County, Montgomery County, and the City of Salem.

The accreditation procedure allows this institution to assess its operations compared to national standards, address any issues, and improve the caliber of its programs and services for offenders.

The jail’s mission is to uphold the custody, control, and care of those who are detained there in a safe, secure, and legal way. WVRJ employs around 200 individuals; this includes corrections officers, civilians, and contract employees who supply commissary, food, and medical services to make up this workforce.

How To Locate An Inmate In WVRJ

It would be best if you located an inmate to help them while in jail since they cannot find you. This is because they may need your help in finance, legal contacts, and sending them letters and packages. In addition, you may need to request their records for investigative or research purposes; thus, locating them is vital.

Finding an inmate in this facility is easier since the jail has an online platform. You can locate them using any internet-enabled device. On the other hand, you can utilize the West Virginia Department of Corrections website search tool to find the inmate. You may locate them using their names; incarceration date, number or ID; case file or type; nature or status of crime or offense.

If you don’t have internet access, you may contact the institution directly and ask about the inmate you’re searching for. To make it simpler to locate them, make sure you phone the institution with their exact names and addresses.

Visitation

The board allows inmate visitation; research proves that visitation is one of the most rehabilitative strategies to help deal with transformation. On-site accommodations include three private non-contact rooms and two attorney/client contact visiting rooms accessible on a first-come, first-served basis.

All non-business visits with convicts at WVRJ take place through video or home visits. This implies that the prisoner will remain in their housing unit and keep in touch with loved ones through phone and video monitoring. Except for visits by professionals or visits that the Superintendent has expressly permitted, in-person contact is prohibited.

For the permitted visitation, the visitor and detainee can communicate through the glass-enclosed and utilize telephones.

WVJR Victims Notification (VINE)

WVRJ offers a crime victim an online resource, VINE, to research the current custody status of prisoners serving sentences in the jail. This helps the victim know when their offender will be released; allow the victim to follow up on any compensation they may need from their offender.

Inmate Programs And Services

In addition to providing imprisonment, the WVRJ offers several programs to help inmates better their health, abilities, and spirituality. For criminals who are drug addicts, WVRJ offers substance abuse treatment programs. In addition, the prison provides pre-release programs to aid in the offender’s reintegration into society after serving their terms, as well as individual and group therapy, anger management, life skills instruction, and pre-release programs.

The jail provides GED and diploma possibilities for prisoners who want to continue their education.

Like in many incarceration facilities, these privileges are earned with good behavior. Such services and programs include recreational, library, parole, visitation, and phone call services and programs.
